I am often asked ‘what sort’ of counselling I do, and that’s a question I can never answer fully. This is because every client is different and all experiences are very personal. I trained formally as an integrative counsellor which gave me a foundation and theoretical knowledge, and I now work with my clients in a variety of ways, gently guiding and holding space for depth and process. Spirituality is a thread that flows through my work.
Often what we come to counselling for, is not what transpires as there are layers upon layers of other aspects and it may not be until we feel ready to start looking at these that we can truly see what’s there. In counselling I am able to help you to understand your emotions, what is beneath them, what are they telling you, and how they are manifesting. Often we feel physical pain or sensations, or behave in sabotaging ways or have habits or repeat patterns that we are not quite sure where they come from until we begin to look at them within a safe space.
You may come to counselling at a difficult point in your life, and need some assistance to work through it or it may be that old wounds are resurfacing during these unsettled times we find ourselves in. I could list many examples but whatever the reason may be, I hope I help you to explore what is coming up for you.
The road is not easy and a commitment is required, but I can say from personal experience that its a journey that is worth it.
I am a qualified counsellor and use the foundations of my training, while often working more creatively, incorporating all aspects of the self - mind, body, spirit and emotion. A session will be very much led by your needs. Areas that I specialise in are the areas that I have lived experience in. These include trauma, areas concerning self worth and self esteem, anxiety, addiction, relationships to self and others, and self harm. I will not sit and stare at you and wait for you to speak! Although the silences are often very useful, I am also open to working more creatively. This could involve writing, drawing, using sound and movement, meditation or using different objects possibly from nature or something that you bring along.
